Alan Parker’s 1965 Fender Super Reverb Amplifier – Used On Many Of The Greatest Hits!

The Fender Super Reverb amplifier, serial A80851, was owned and used by UK guitarist and composer Alan Parker on many sessions. It was made circa. 1965 and Alan used it on his recordings until I collected it from him in 2017. You can see it here pictured with our old friend Alan Rogan.

The half-century of recordings with this amplifier famously included Alan’s guitar riff on David Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel”, also “1984”, and the Diamond Dogs album, and notably T Rex’s international smash hit “Get It On (Bang A Gong)” the Walker Brothers’ “The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore” and “No Regrets”.

Alan Parker was a very in-demand session player, and estimates he played between 1000 and 1500 sessions with this amplifier.

He was a member of UK chart group Blue Mink who had several big hit records including “Melting Pot” and “Good Morning Freedom”, and a member of the Congregation (number 1, “Softly Whispering I Love You”), also one of CCS (the “Collective Consciousness Society” led by Alexis Korner ), who operated from 1970-73, and had hits with “Whole Lotta Love” and “Tap Turns On The Water”.

Alan is and was highly regarded in the music industry as both a guitarist and film composer, and played for many other artists in his 1500 or so sessions, including Serge Gainbourg, Jimi Hendrix (who gave him an  Epiphone guitar in March 1970), Neil Diamond, Bobbie Gentry, Stevie Wonder, Dusty Springfield, Cilla Black, Leapy Lee, Tom Jones, Englebert Humperdink, Paper Lace, Joe Cocker, Dobie Grey, Donovan (“Hurdy Gurdy Man”) and Olivia Newton John. He composed the soundtrack for two Pink Panther movies, and also the “First Blood” soundtrack. There were countless other sessions where this amplifier was used.
